Wednesday 17th February is Ash Wednesday and St Mark’s and St Thomas churches come together for a 6pm service of ashing. Ash Wednesday focuses the Christian’s heart on repentance and prayer, through personal and communal confession.
During Lent we usually don’t use Alleluia’s in our liturgy, as this is a more sombre, penitential season. There’s an interesting tradition that has developed in some places, to hide the Alleluias during Lent. You might like to download this Alleluia colouring sheet, decorate it, and then hide it at home during lent… and then bring it out again on Easter day to celebrate.
In a really challenging season, why not focus on self-care this Lent. Here are 40 self-care ideas to choose from, why not pick one each day and give yourself a boost of positivity.
With Ash Wednesday nearly upon us, the start of Lent is not far behind. As we are unable to meet in the building to remember the start of this important part of the Christian calendar together, you may still wish to ash yourself, during our shared online service with St Thomas and All Saints, Lymington – that will be going out at 6pm on the 17th February.
How might a Rule (or Rhythm) of Life help us to grow and be more fruitful in our relationships with God, with each other, and with the communities we’re part of? Take time to reflect on one of these short online retreats from Winchester Diocese!
We invite you to journey through Lent with us, using items and symbols that you can find around your home or on your daily exercise.
