Cathedral Lay Ministries service

9th October – 11am

Several of our congregation will be receiving their Bishop’s license for ministry in our parish. Numbers at the cathedral are significantly restricted, due to covid guidance, however, you are warmly invited to join us online for this service:

https://www.winchester-cathedral.org.uk/service-live-stream

Please pray for George Kidner, receiving Bishop’s permission to preach, Eve Jolly and Rebecca Rickaby, receiving their Bishop’s Commission for Mission. We are so glad of their work and ministry in our parish here.

Get involved; would you like to contribute with readings or intercessions?

Key parts of a church services are in sharing the wisdom within our Bibles and through prayer, giving thanks and sharing our fears and concerns with our loving God.

If you would like to contribute to the work we do in the form of the readings or leading in prayer, do please get in touch – we’d love to include you in our services. You don’t have to be able to be in the building for reading either; we can include you pre-recorded too!

Get in touch – we’d love to hear from you.

Monday study group

Are you interested in exploring your faith journey further outside of the Church services? Perhaps you would like to know more about some of the things we include in the service as standard?

If so may we invite you to join our study group on Mondays, from 10.30am to 12 noon on Zoom (details below).

This is a continuing Pilgrim Course looking at The Creeds in more detail. All are welcome and our sessions will be lead by Jane who is passionate about exploring faith and leading those discussions and wonderings that are not always possible in a service setting.

If you would like to join us, please email ‘takepart@penningtonchurch.uk‘ and we will be happy to welcome you.

Help shape the future of St Marks!

If you have a few minutes we’d appreciate your time to respond to a few questions that can help guide how we move forward:

…is a unique collaboration between The Diocese of Chester, HeartEdge, Melanesian Mission UK and Southampton University.

In this 4-week Creation Care Course, we will provide you with vital information about climate change, its impacts on people, and reflect on our role as Christians in taking practical climate action.

  • Week 2: Understanding Climate Change (14 October 2021, 19.30-21:00), we will look at climate change, its drivers and impacts from a scientific perspective.
  • Week 3: Living Climate Change – Stories from Melanesia (21 October 2021, 19.30-21.00), we will learn about the effects of climate change on people and draw upon examples of climate impacts and human responses in Melanesia.
  • Week 4: Taking Action – Caring for the Environment, Caring for People (18 November 2021, 19.30-21.00), we will hear about various options for climate change mitigation and adaptation that we can take as individuals, as parishes and as a Christian community.

Wanted: Good home for a wooden upright piano

Is there anyone who would like to own a lovely old piano? We need some space in the Community Hall and the piano now needs another home for budding pianists or practised fingers that would like some mindful musical exercise!

Please email enquiries@penningtonchurch.uk if you would like to view the piano. A donation for the instrument would be greatly appreciated.

(Still) Calling from the Edge

(Still) Calling from the Edge is the 10th annual conference on Disability & Church. It’s a partnership between St Martin in the Fields and Inclusive Church, hosted online by HeartEdge.

Since 2012 these conferences have held space for disabled people to gather, to resource each other and the church. They are uniquely for rather than about disabled people, who are a majority of planners, speakers and delegates. We prioritise the voices of disabled people because they are rarely heard in church contexts, but warmly welcome family members, supporters and those with an interest in disability.

In this year’s conference we explore call as challenge, lament and vocation. Through art, music, story and theology, in plenary talks, small groups, workshops and liturgy. It’s a cry for justice that marks a milestone: 10 years of calling from the edge.

The programme includes: Storytellers – Sarah Davies & Jemma Brown. Workshops: Liberation theology – Hannah Lewis; Vocation – Tim Goode & Tim Rourke; Hymn-writing – June Boyce-Tillman; Challenging Power – Krysia Waldock & Dan Barnes Davies; Liturgy led by Emily Richardson. St Martin’s will be well-represented in the keynote talk, Calling from the Edge, by Fiona MacMillan; Called to the Feast, an Art workshop imagining an inclusive Last Supper, led by Jonathan Evens, and Godly Play with Sam Wells.

Spaces are still available. Details and registration:
