Easter Services at St Marks

  • Palm Sunday starts the journey through Holy Week! We hope you can join us from 8am and again at 10am on Sunday 24th March.
  • As the week unfolds, we invite you to join St Thomas in Lymington on Maundy Thursday for their special service at 7pm.
  • On Good Friday, do join us and churches across Pennington and Lymington for the service at 10am being held at the URC Church in Lymington.
  • Again on Good Friday, here at St Marks we will be holding a reflective and meditative service at 2pm.
  • In triumph for Easter Sunday, we celebrate the risen Lord in our 8am and 10am Communion services, here at St Marks.

Licensing Service for Michael Burson-Thomas

We are happy to confirm that the delayed welcome of Michael Burson-Thomas to join our church family as Priest-in-charge of St Marks is now to take place on the 24th April! The service will be held here at St Marks for 7:30pm.

Children’s Society collection boxes

In advance of our service to celebrate the work of the Children’s Society, those who have been saving their pennies towards this worthy charity are asked to return their boxes to Dorothy here at St Marks on the upcoming Sunday services.

Spring is in the Air in Pennington

Create your own Spring inspired creations, using a variety of art materials. Take home your creations to welcome the warmer weather! Free event taking place at our community hall in early April, kindly run and supported by our friends at St Barbe’s Museum (link).

2024 APCM for St Marks

Our annual parochial church meeting for 2024 is coming up on the 12th May to follow the 10am service that Sunday morning. As part of this, we are revising our electoral role, which begins on the 31st March. Do update your details – or join the electoral roll – on the forms that will be available at the back of church. The electoral roll enables you to attend and vote in the APCM and helps us and the diocese understand the needs of the worshipping community.

CTLP: Lent Courses

St Thomas’ are studying the book by ‘Women of Holy Week’ on Sunday afternoons at 3pm in the St Thomas church hall. This series of monologues comes with readings, notes and questions. The same series may be followed on a different day at another church.

Easter Music: Stainer, The Crucifixion

Coming up on Saturday 30th March from 4pm at St Mary Magdalene Church, New Milton (BH25 6QL), a beautiful, Easter-themed concert with congregation participation. Performances from the Lymington Choral Society and Nova Foresta Classical Players and lead by musical director Phil Daish-Handy, an important work remembering the most significant and historic occasion of all time!

Spring Fayre

The church Spring Fayre will be taking place at the Community Hall on 13th April from 10am to 12pm. If you are able to help please let Eve or Teresa know. We would be grateful to receive donations of cakes, plants, raffle and tombola prizes.

Quiz Evening from the WI

Pennington WI are running a Quiz at the St Marks Community Hall with Fish and Chip Supper on Saturday 20th April to which you and your friends are all warmly invited. Teams of 6 – which can also be made up on the night. The only cost (payable at the Quiz) is for the supper and, of course, there will be a raffle. Sauces etc will be provided but please bring your own drinks. Menu is as follows: Fish and Chips £6, Sausage and Chips £5, Veggie Burger and Chips £7. Doors will open at 6.30pm for a 6.45pm start with a break at 7.30pm for the supper. Please contact Pat Wright (678416) or complete the list at the back of church. Come and join us for a fun evening.

Choralia Milford -Eternal Light’ concert

St Mary Magdalene Church, New Milton – Saturday 20th April, 7pm
For those not in a quizical frame of mind, you might want to attend this musical evening from the talented Choralia singers instead! Directed by Phil Daish-Handy and featuring musical pieces from Goodall (Eternal Light – A Requiem), Chilcottt (Irish Blessing) and Whitacre (Sleep), this promises to be an entertaining evening!

St Mark’s Draw Club

April is the start of the new St Mark’s Draw Club year. If you are able to help deliver application forms around Pennington please let Teresa know. Forms for the draw are also now available at the back of church or on the church website. Please return forms in time for the first draw of the new year which will take place on the 4th Wednesday of April.

Pennington Community Hub

The Fareshare Larder continues it’s successful work on Thursday in the Community Hall. But, for the moment we are not meeting afterwards from 2-4pm for refreshments. We are looking into alternative ideas for continuing this outreach work to strengthen the work in our community

Hampshire Home Library Service

did you know that Hampshire Libraries have a home library service? If you can’t get to the library due to ill-health, disability or caring responsibilities, the library can come to you. Monday Study Group on Zoom

The study group continues after a December break in January from the 19th – and will be studying the “Rose Guide to the Epistles.  An excellent reference book series, we hope you will join us as we start the new year together!

Ecochurch Recycling

Milk Bottle tops: we are now collecting these as Stewarts Garden Centre are turning these into garden furniture!

Medicine blister packs: we are also no longer able to collect these packs at the moment. If you know of  anywhere these can be recycled please let Eve know.

ground coffee/coffee bean packets: a notice at the back of church shows which bags are now being collected. Please support our effort to reduce waste.

Daily Prayer

With St Thomas in Lymington, we continue to ‘pray for our nation, for its leaders, its health and essential services and all those who suffer’ this week at 9am on Zoom. Led by members of St Mark’s and St Thomas congregations, this now runs Monday through Friday.

Daily prayer is also taking place in St Thomas church from 9am on Saturdays

Coming together, we offer daily prayer for the situation in Ukraine.
