An update for First Sunday after Trinity

Continuing service pattern in June

As pandemic restrictions are relaxing in the UK, here at St Mark’s we’re likewise welcoming you back into our building for worship. We’re still working out what works best for an in-building service, taking into account the restrictions that are still in play; and we’re also looking into what times for services works best too, for those coming to St Mark’s.

Continuing into June, we will be hosting on every Sunday an 8am BCP Communion service. Taking on board feedback about difficulties for some of our congregation in arriving for a service at 9am, we have been trialling the 9am service being moved to 10am instead – with this alternating between an informal Morning Praise service or a Contemporary Communion service.

As we look forward to the possibilities and potentials of services within St Mark’s once more, we welcome your feedback and comments as to how these changes may work for you. Please do feel free to get in touch via ‘takepart@penningtonchurch.uk‘ to share your thoughts.

Flowers in church

You’ve probably noticed that in the last few weeks, we’ve brought flowers back into church. If you would like to be part of the team that arranges flowers – all are welcome to be part of this group, whether you’ve been involved before or not. Please get in touch directly with Christine Kellow Webb – christine.kw@uwclub.net 01590-670413

Generous June

Across the Diocese of Winchester, the month of June is designated Generous June. There is a daily podcast that we’ll be sharing on our facebook page and linked through our website each day, where we’ll join with others across the diocese delving into Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians, and reflecting on biblical truths of giving and generosity. (You may recognise the voice for 3rd June!) There are paper copies of this monthly reflection booklet too, if online doesn’t’ work for you, please let us know if you’d like one, or pick one up from the back of church.

Seekers Group: Christian faith and Confirmation

Rob and Mair Ellis are organising to host a small group over 6 weeks on a Sunday morning after church. The plan is to start this Sunday, 6th June with a session from 11:15am until 12:15pm in their garden in Pennington (only 10 minutes walk from the church across the common).

The first session will be getting to know a bit about each other and discovering if it is for you; coffee, tea and croissants or cake will be provided!

Following this, the course will then start on Sunday the 27th June and continue for the following 4 Sundays in July. Come and join us directly is you can – but if you are unable to join in person we can link you in via Zoom.

We hope this could work for you and would welcome any queries: please feel free to get in touch – pop an email through to seekers@penningtonchurch.uk for more information.

Rotas! Can you help?

It’s really important to us, that when you arrive at St Mark’s Church, that you are made to feel welcome. We have a great team of people that greet people as they arrive, and in this covid season, ensure that we have also captured test and trace info too. We also have a fabulous team of people that take part in services, by sharing in the readings. We’d love to find someone that would be willing to coordinate these teams, working out who will be doing the greeting and the readings each week, and helping people to know what to do. Could this be you? Please have a chat with Teresa or Rachel if you could support the work of our church community in this way?

Developing our online-focused service

We want to continue our online church, as a fresh expression of church. We’d really like your help with this. In particular, we’d like to draw together a team who are passionate about our online church, and who want to continue worshipping together online. Would you like to join us as we explore these ideas forward?

If you’d like to be involved in this in any way, please do email us at takepart@penningtonchurch.uk and let us know how you’d like to be involved!

YouTube and Facebook

All our services can be found on our YouTube channel here. We also stream our services on our Facebook page too, here.

Lords Prayer

We invite you to video yourself on your phone or computer reading the Lords’ Prayer. Please then email your recording to takepart@penningtonchurch.uk

We’re now showing the Lord’s Prayer in our services with each line read by a different person and we’d love to include as many of our congregation in this as we can. Please be brave, and join in the fun. (Trust me, it was strange for me to get used to leading the service in front of a camera or a phone too.) Others in the congregation will be so delighted to see you taking part, as we are each encouraged by seeing those that we know and love.
