No cover at 8am service for 28th September
Unfortunately, we have been unable to find cover for our 8am service at the end of this month and therefore may have to cancel this service. Our apologies to our 8am congregation, who are always welcome to our 10am service that day.
Harvest Concert
The Milford West Gallery Quire and Band will be entertaining us on Saturday 27th September from 2 – 3pm in St Mark’s Church. Journey back in time to the 1740 – 1860’s for a lively, fun event of stories and music followed by light refreshments. Tickets: £8 to include light refreshments.
But what is West Gallery music? Well it’s the music sung in the local parish churches during the period 1740 – 1860. It’s called West Gallery because in many churches the quire sang from a gallery at the west end. There is no keyboard accompaniment because in the 18th century few local churches had organs and the music is intended for amateur singers. It is often rather lively and rhythmic perhaps because local folk musicians were often the members of the gallery band and played at rowdy parties. Consequently some of the music was considered by clergy to be too secular in style! By the mid 19th century a less exuberant style of music was called for. Hymns Ancient and Modern replaced West Gallery with more solemn music in keeping with Victorian sensibilities. There were also complaints about the conduct of the gallery bands, so far from the clerical eye, often of a rather independent disposition. Unfortunately the Milford West Gallery Quire and Band have not improved in this respect.
Harvest Festival Service and Harvest Lunch
We give thanks for our harvest on Sunday 28th September at 10am followed by our Harvest Lunch in the Hall at 12 noon. There will be a list at the back of church to sign up to bring food for the occasion/help with organising the meal.
A basket is at the back of church for donations of non-perishable food in date (dried/tinned), personal hygiene products (e.g. washing powder, toothpaste). Thank you for your contributions so far – from Basics Bank. Donations at our Harvest Festival Service will be taken to Basics Bank for distribution in the community.

Upgraded Sound System for St Marks
Thank you to all those that have generously donated to our recent appeal for contributions to assist with the costs of the roof and heating repairs.
We have just received permission to modernise our sound system in the Church which will be to the benefit of all our congregations and if you are able to help with The cost which will be £5,000 we would be very grateful. these are challenging times for many, we ask you to prayerfully consider what you might be able to give to help us. Every contribution, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated and makes a meaningful difference in preserving our church for current and future generations. A box will be at the back of church for any donations to help fund this new sound system.
Thank you for your ongoing support, prayers, and commitment to our church family. If you would like to contribute specifically toward these expenses, you can do so here.

Holy Communion Intinction
The CoE’s national policy is that intinction (dipping) of wafers is not permitted, to keep safe those with particular health conditions. Those with severe allergies, particularly to gluten, can become seriously ill. There is a chance that a person’s fingers could touch the outside of the chalice or the wine, as hands carry many more germs than found on our lips.
It is important to remember receiving Communion in ‘one kind’ is still Communion ‘in full’.
Craft Market
Every Wednesday from 10.30am – 3pm in the United Reformed Church Hall there is an artisan craft market. They are selling local New Forest products e.g. cakes, jams, gifts, decorations, etc. The URC are members of Christians Together in Lymington and Pennington and it would be a friendly gesture to support their efforts.
Pennington Community Hub
The Community Hub continues it’s successful work on Thursday in the Community Hall from 12pm to 2pm.
