Rachel’s final service with St Mark’s
Thank you for joining us on the 21st August, as we celebrated Rachel’s four years with St Mark’s in her final service for us! Thank you also to all who contributed to the tea party outside afterwards – and although we agree that the ground really needs a good deal of rain, we’re glad that the rain held off for us to enjoy sending Rachel off in style!

Anti-social behaviour in the churchyard
We are increasingly getting reports of anti-social behaviour in the churchyard here at St Mark’s. Churchyards exist for the benefit of all. They are beautiful and sacred places which are clearly important to the local community and to those who have loved ones buried here.
This space is intended to be a quiet and peaceful space, where visitors can spend time paying their respect to their loved ones, and spending time in prayer. We ask that all visitors respect this space, and show consideration and kindness to other visitors.
Please dispose of litter in the bins provided at the churchyard entrances or take it home to dispose of properly.
If you know the people that are not respecting this space, please strongly encourage them to stop this behaviour in the churchyard. There are now people that no longer feel it is safe to visit graves in the churchyard. Our churchyard volunteers, and many others in the community are repeatedly having to pick up rubbish left behind by others.
As a community, we need you to help us to work together to make this a safe place for everyone to visit. If you are witnessing an incident of antisocial behaviour in the churchyard, please report this to the police through their online reporting tool:

Meditation Group goes on it’s summer holidays
The Take Time Meditation Group will be taking a break for August and the next meditation will be on 6th September 2022 at 11am on Zoom. All are welcome to join us.
Pennington summer fair
Set a reminder for your calendars, for Saturday 27th August from 10am to midday – the date of our next summer fair! Stalls: Tombola, Raffle, Bricabrac, Books, Plants, Cakes. Donations for stalls will be gratefully received. The Holiday Activity and Food Programme
St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery are running a Summer programme called the Holiday Activity and Food programme through August. They provide activities four days a week for four hours each day, which includes a hot meal, enriching activities (arts and craft) and some fun and games.
The programme targets families with children on Benefit Related Free School Meals, Refugees and children that may be vulnerable of have SEND needs.
They also run family sessions two days each week and two session for 11-16 years olds.

Monday study group
Our Monday study group will be taking a break for August – and our studies will reconvene on Monday 5th September 2022 on Zoom at 10.30am. If you would like to join the group, do please contact Jane (enquiries@penningtonchurch.uk) and she will be happy to give you more information on our studies.
The Birds of Lymington and surrounding areas
Learn about some of the many birds in our area and churchyard. Talk with slides given by a freelance Ornithologist and licensed bird ringer. St Mark’s Church Saturday September 17th from 3pm. Entrance £5, with refreshments available and a raffle too!
The Screwtape Letters
- Tuesday 13th September, 7:30pm at Ashley Baptist Church, New Milton

The Screwtape Letters is an award-winning satirical comedy that is now touring the UK for it’s 8th year. Nigel Forde’s “sparkling script” and David Robinson’s “impressive Screwtape” (The Stage) bring to life Lewis’ classic book – which has sold millions of copies worldwide.
The story is set in Professor Screwtape’s study in the timeless dominion of Hell. The play follows Screwtape’s attempts to train his junior devils, including his protégé Wormwood, in the fine art of temptation. It remains faithful to the original text, characters and themes created by Lewis and holds three Edinburgh Fringe ‘Sell-Out Show’ awards.

Daily Prayer
With St Thomas in Lymington, we continue to ‘pray for our nation, for its leaders, its health and essential services and all those who suffer’ this week at 9am on Zoom. Led by members of St Mark’s and St Thomas congregations, this now runs Monday through Friday.
Daily prayer is also taking place in St Thomas church from 9am on Saturdays
Coming together, we offer daily prayer for the situation in Ukraine.
